Two letters (1847) relate to his interest in a steam sawmill in Houston, Texas. A patent (1869) issued to Taylor for logging trucks is included. Papers include a contract (1852) with the Jefferson and Lake Pontchartrain Railroad Co. Letters from Calvin's brother, Sereno, discuss salt making during the Civil War. Estate papers of Samuel J. Fowler (1858) and Samuel S. Henry (1863) are included. Personal correspondence reflects family life and social and economic conditions in Mississippi and New Hampshire. Letters (1839-1865) of Sereno Taylor reflect Baptist churches and schools and describe related buildings, faculty, towns, and people. Letters (1840-1874) of Lewis Taylor describe family life, farming, and the town of Hinsdale. One letter (1846) describes Lewis's trip to the Wisconsin Territory. Other family correspondence (1840-1860) concerns land values and crop conditions in Madison and East Feliciana parishes of Louisiana.
